FTP Instructions for Recent Versions of Internet Explorer


Recent versions of web browsers including Internet Explorer allow you to upload files by FTP relatively easily. You may need to upgrade your browser to the most recent version available in order to successfully FTP your files to General Graphics.

To upload via FTP within Internet Explorer:

1. Open a browser window.
2. Type ftp://ftp.generalgraphicscorp.net into the address bar and press Enter.
3. You will be prompted to enter your FTP username and password (which a General Graphics representative will give you). Enter this information and select Log On.

4. You are now connected to the FTP server. Now simply drag and drop your files to upload into the browser window, and wait for the file to transfer. Once you have sent your file, the icon for the file will appear in the Internet Explorer window. The file is now uploaded.


If You Have a Problem Connecting to the Server or Uploading a File

Depending on how your computer is connected to the Internet, you may receive an error message like this one when you first try to connect to our FTP server:

If you encounter this error, you should change your Internet options so that Internet Explorer uses passive mode FTP. To change this setting, go to the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer and click on "Internet Options". In the "Internet Options" window, click on the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to find an option labeled "Use Passive FTP", and check the box. This image shows where to find the passive FTP option:
